Treatment of Osteomyelitis

Abstract
Feeling that a review of a very common but not least important subject like "treatment of osteomyelitis" may be of help to clinician, brief presentation of basic principles of treatment of osteomyelitis in each stage in correlation with underlying pa¢¥ tho-physiologic changes which were so well described by Buchman, Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, and which we followed with much success were introduced.
Treatment of osteomyelitis was considered n three stages, e.g., acute, postacute (not stibacutej and chronic stages. Iii short, in actute stage, early diagnosis and early decompression procedure¢¥ is required which would prevent partial cortical dr massive diaphyseal segikesteration with provision of massive specific antibiotics were stressed, In postacute stage; protection of the affected limb, niai mal conservative surgery and wise of careful observation for optimal time for radical intervention were emphasized. In chronic stage, wide saucerization extending to normal medullary cavity with primary closure under powerful antibiotics umbrella were recommended.
There is, however, no rule of thumb to govern all the aspects of the treatment *of osteomyelitis and therefore individual situation must be weighed: and handled carefully in light of present day concept of patho-physiology in this situation.
